No new users will be accepted when AWS stopped Cloud9, CodeCommit, and CloudSearch services; however, current customers will receive support during the migration process.

Recently, AWS has announced the deprecation of several of its services, which has caused concern within the community due to the way the information was communicated. Below is a detailed summary of the key services that are being deprecated:

Introducing Rightsizing Recommendations for Amazon RDS
  1. AWS Cloud9: This is a cloud-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that allows developers to write, run, and debug code directly in their web browsers. AWS is no longer accepting new customers for Cloud9 and is encouraging existing users to migrate to other tools like AWS IDE Toolkits or AWS CloudShell.
  2. AWS CodeCommit:  CodeCommit is a managed source control service that hosts private Git repositories. AWS has stopped onboarding new customers to CodeCommit and is recommending that existing users migrate to other Git services like GitHub or GitLab. AWS has provided guidance on how to migrate repositories.
  3. Amazon CloudSearch: This service, which allows users to set up, manage, and scale search solutions for websites and applications, is also being phased out. AWS is encouraging customers to move to OpenSearch Service, which offers more advanced search capabilities.
  4. Other Services: In addition to the above, AWS is also deprecating services like SimpleDB, Amazon Forecast, Data Pipeline, S3 Select, Amazon QLDB, and CodeStar. These services will remain available to existing customers for now, but no new customers will be onboarded. AWS is providing migration support and guidance to help customers transition to alternative services.

The deprecations have sparked some criticism, especially regarding the communication of these changes, with some customers feeling that AWS has not provided sufficient notice or clarity. The deprecation strategy is part of AWS’s broader focus on consolidating resources and enhancing their core offerings.
